Vocal Master Class with Spider Saloff

The Song, The Style, and Your Voice

Sunday, November 17 - 10am-2:30pm

Location: DePaul School of Music Recital Hall (804 W. Belden - at the corner of Halsted and Fullerton)

A one day master class with acclaimed vocalist and actress Spider Saloff will be a unique and creative look at making music work for the individual singer. We will explore making the best of your unique sound and creating style in what you present to an audience.

All singers (who are not just auditing the class) will work on 2 songs during the 4 hour work shop.  We will have a half hour lunch break, so we recommend bringing something to eat or getting something to go.

In advance, Spider would like you to select about 4 or 5 songs to choose from.  Spider and the accompanist for the class would like to know your choices in advance.  We would like you to choose from American songbook or classic jazz, so the material will be familiar enough to all involved to allow better coaching and more creativity.

These choices should be sent via email to Spider 1 week before the class, November 10. [email protected]

From those, we will select 2 songs and request that you have sheet music or lead sheets (preferably in your keys, but very often we end up changing keys in the class).

During the class we will be doing some very simple group exercises on vocal improvisation and dynamics that will include everyone in the group.

These classes are always an awakening of creative ideas and the pure joy of singing and listening to other singers!

Participants (limit 10): $75 - must be paid in advance

Auditors: $40
